The first of many birthday pun jokes are the famous birthday pun that the BBC has had a hand in creating over the past few years.
The BBC started a tradition called The Birthday Punch in 2006.
It’s an ongoing celebration that’s been seen on TV shows such as Top Gear and The Voice.
“It’s a birthday joke, but it’s got nothing to do with the day,” said John Moore, the programme’s presenter.
“In reality, it’s just about celebrating the new year and celebrating the birthdays of the people we love.”
“The idea is that there’s a certain day, which is the anniversary of someone’s birthday, and the idea is, the birthday pun’s a great way to celebrate that.”
It’s not just about the day itself, though.
The Birthday Pun also has an impact on the day, as well as the year, as a new generation of parents look back at their childhoods.
“The Birthday Punch is very important because it’s a celebration of the new-year, and people celebrate the new years with a bit of a giggle, so it’s about that laugh and the joy in their faces,” Moore said.
“You know, I’m a huge birthday pun fan, so I get really excited to see my own birthday and celebrate it with my family.”
It might be a bit more of a tongue-in-cheek approach, but the BBC is also creating a birthday pun for every child who grows up to be an adult.
For the next year, The Birthday Punt is being broadcast live across the UK on BBC Radio 5 live and the BBC World Service.
“There’s some great puns that you can expect to hear,” Moore added.
“A lot of them will be very silly, but there are some really funny ones that you’ll recognise.”
