A woman who was “happy to be alive” at her Aunt Annie’s funeral last month received a surprise kiss from her niece, a gift that has now made her a new member of her extended family.
The unnamed woman, whose family is from the UK, told The Verge that she was invited to attend the funeral, which she was “really happy to be a part of”.
“My aunt Annie’s son’s sister had been doing some work at her home and it was the first time we had met in a long time,” she said.
“I told my aunt that I would be here, and I am so happy that I did.”
The unidentified woman said she did not tell her aunt her last name.
“It was a very quick and easy way to make friends with her,” she told The Guardian.
“She is very much a good friend, and so was my sister, so that was a good thing.”
The unnamed aunt did not mention her age to her aunt’s son, but did tell him that she loved him, and had met him on a previous occasion.
“That was pretty sweet,” she added.
“We have a lot in common, and it’s pretty special.
It was nice to be with him and get to know him.”
The woman said that she had “a very strong bond with her niece” because she was a “very active auntie” to the girl’s family.
“When I was little, I was really worried about her and how she was going to cope with the whole thing,” she continued.
“But she’s been a really nice, warm and supportive person, and that’s just what you want.”
The anonymous woman said her aunt had also helped her with “all her shopping” over the holiday season.
“My Aunt Annie had a really big Christmas tree this year, and my aunt Annie gave her a huge gift that she put on my birthday,” she explained.
“And my niece was very excited to see it.
So, when I saw it she was like, ‘Oh my God!
You’re giving me a gift!'”
The unnamed family member also added that her niece “was very supportive and very good to us” when the news came that her Aunt had passed away.
“They were like, [that’s] what you did for Aunt Annie,” she laughed.
“So I’m very grateful.”
